Breakfest 2015 has been a long awaited day out for the EMAS fam over the past couple of weeks, with a massive line up of Breaks, Drum and Bass and House artists amongst other stand outs. Duos Not So Hot and Bad Habits were lucky enough to be selected to represent EMAS by playing in the Tiny Club at the festival this year!
Our home girl Ellictt, one half of Bad Habits has decided to put together a mix of tracks from one of her favourite artists headlining this year, Danny Byrd. See what she has to say about him and his music!
If you haven’t heard of Danny Byrd you better get in the know, and fast. From his debut album Supersized in 2008 he’s been a stand out as one of the leading Hospital records artists. It’s safe to say Danny Byrd was definitely my first favorite Drum and Bass producer, and to this day remains my favorite on the Hospital Records label. I first discovered his crazy uniquely uplifting sound when I heard several of his tracks on the release Hospitality Drum and Bass 2011 compilation album, Ill Behaviour (ft. I-Kay), Tonight (ft. Netsky), We Can Have It All (Sigma Remix) and Hot Fuzz (ft. Tomahawk) (the first track featured in this mix). I think most his fans would agree when I say Ill Behavior remains a Drum and Bass anthem to this day and goes off when played during any set. From that moment I was hooked and got my hands on his 2010 album Rave Digger as soon as I could. This is probably my favorite album from the man, with favorites such as Sweet Harmony and Failsafe (ft. London Elektricity). I then didn’t hear much from him in terms of production until 2013 when he made a massive come back with the album Golden Ticket. Every song on the album heightens the emotions in an incredible way, from the huge rise in Throw Ya Hands to the jungle breaks in Bad Boy (Back Again) to the hard hitting kicks in Make It Weighty (ft. Serocee), this man will never disappoint with any release. Golden Ticket also featured collaborations with huge names in the scene including Jaguar Skills, Roni Size and vocalist Tanya Lacey, but no one does a collaboration with Danny Byrd better that the Viper Recordings boys Brookes Brothers. They’ve teamed us to give us huge tunes like Get On It, Paperchase and their recently released single Climb High (the last track featured in the mix). I could talk all day about the amazing production we’ve received from Danny Byrd but it’s critical to mention he puts on a killer performance. I’ve been lucky enough to see him at Origin New Years Eve 2 years ago and at an Inhibit Promotions show last year in June. Both shows had the whole crowd bouncing to his tunes and the killer tracks he was throwing down throughout his sets. Breakfest 2015 will not know what hit it when he steps up to that stage. All his tunes just reflect the “Best Day Ever” vibe Breakfest has been promising us these past few weeks in the lead up to one of the best festival line ups Perth has seen. I feel blessed to be able to support such an icon in the Drum and Bass community and can’t wait to see what he has in store!
If you want to learn more about this legend I recommend watching this short documentary about Golden Ticket, tells a bit of his story as an artist and shows that he’s really an all round awesome guy!
